Troubleshooting

Amana range controls not responding

Unresponsive range controls can be a lock or mode setting (control lock, Sabbath mode, a demo mode) or a control that needs a power reset. If buttons still do not respond, the keypad membrane, the user interface board, the connection to the main control, or heat damage from a failing cooling fan can be the cause, and many of these set an F2 or F6 code.

Quick checks first

  • Check your owner's manual for how to turn off control lock and Sabbath mode, and try that first.
  • Wipe the touch panel dry; water, grease or a damp cloth resting on the panel can register as a pressed key.
  • Reset power at the breaker: switch it off for a minute, then back on.
  • Note any code on the display before and after the reset.

Lock and special modes Owner check

Control lock disables most keys and is easy to turn on by accident while cleaning. Sabbath mode limits the display and keys and suppresses tones. Demo or showroom modes let the display work without heating. Each has an exit procedure in the owner's manual, often a press-and-hold on a specific key.

Power reset and outages Owner check

A voltage dip or brief outage can leave the control in a state where it does not respond. Cutting power at the breaker for a minute restarts it. If the problem returns after storms or utility work, mention that to the technician.

Stuck or shorted keys Technician

Service documentation for these ranges lists keypad faults under F2 codes, including a stuck or shorted key and a keypad that the main control no longer sees. A cracked overlay, liquid that got under the membrane, or a damaged keypad ribbon can all cause it. A technician checks the keypad and its connection to the control.

Communication between boards Technician

Many ranges split the controls between a user interface board and a main or relay control. Service documentation uses F6E0 for a lost connection to the oven user interface on several platforms. Loose or heat-damaged connectors, or a failed board on either side, interrupt that link. A technician checks the harness and both boards.

Heat damage and the cooling fan Technician

Electronics above the oven are protected by a cooling fan that runs during baking and cleaning. Service documentation includes F8 codes for a cooling fan running too slowly on several ranges. A weak fan lets the control area overheat, which can cause erratic behavior during or after self-clean. A technician checks the fan and the control for heat damage.

Error codes linked to this problem

If your Amana range shows one of these codes, start with its page:

Repair cost

RepairTypical rangeLabor
Range touchpad / user interface replacement$250–$550Light
Range control board replacement$300–$720Moderate

Typical total ranges for the Las Vegas area, parts and labor included. The final cost depends on diagnosis, the exact model, parts availability and whether other damage is found.

When to call for diagnosis

Call for service if the controls do not respond after a power reset and the lock and mode settings are off, or if an F2, F6 or F8 code appears.

Model-specific information

Causes and codes differ by platform. Look up your model for its exact fault-code list, or start from a popular model:
