Local conditions that affect appliances
Extreme summer heat
Refrigerators and freezers in garages or warm kitchens run much longer duty cycles in a Las Vegas summer. Condenser airflow and clean condenser coils matter more here than in milder climates, and a marginal condenser fan or compressor start component often shows up first in July and August.
Very hard water
Las Vegas Valley tap water is very hard. Mineral scale builds up in dishwasher spray arms and heaters, washer and refrigerator water inlet valves, and ice-maker fill tubes, and it can shorten the life of those parts. Water filters protect the ice and water system but do not soften the water.
Gas appliances
Many homes in the valley cook and dry with natural gas. If you smell gas, leave the home without operating switches and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Gas valve, igniter and burner diagnosis is always professional work.
