How we source our technical information
Technical accuracy matters more to us than page count. This is how the information on this site is produced, and where its limits are.
Manufacturer service documentation, organized by platform
Our technicians work from the manufacturer's technical documentation: tech sheets, service manuals and troubleshooting guides. We maintain an internal, structured index of that documentation that links each model number to the engineering platform it is built on. Our current index covers 13,851 Whirlpool-family models across 2,031 platforms.
Many models sold under different brand names share one platform. We organize fault codes and troubleshooting by platform, which is why a code page tells you which models it applies to, and why the same code can have different meanings on different appliances.
What we publish, and what we don't
- We write our own plain-language explanations. We do not republish manufacturer manuals or their text.
- Every cause on a code page is labeled: documented (listed in the service documentation for that condition), possible (based on how the system works) or unconfirmed (a common assumption the documentation doesn't support).
- We publish owner checks that need no tools and no panels removed. For anything beyond that we describe what a technician investigates, not how to do it — and we never give instructions for gas, sealed refrigerant systems, microwave high voltage or live electrical testing.
- When our data for a model or code is incomplete, we say so rather than fill the gap with a guess.
Repair costs
Cost ranges are typical totals for the Las Vegas area, parts and labor included, based on published cost guides, current parts pricing and local service rates. They are guides, not quotes; the price of a specific repair is set after diagnosis.
