JennAir cooktop controls not responding
Touch controls that do not respond may be locked, wet, or covered by an object, or the control needs a power reset. If a reset does not help, the touch panel, the link between the user interface and the power board, or overheating can be responsible, and many electronic cooktops store F2 or F6 codes for these faults.
Quick checks first
- Turn off control lock using the steps in your owner's manual.
- Remove pans, utensils and cloths from the touch area and wipe it completely dry.
- Reset power at the breaker: off for a minute, then back on.
- Note any code on the display.
Lock, moisture and objects Owner check
Touch controls sense your finger through the glass, so water, a spill, a damp cloth or a pan resting on the control area can block them or register as a stuck key. Service documentation for these cooktops lists F2E1 for a stuck or shorted keypad and starts with checking for objects or water on the controls. Control lock disables the keys on purpose; the owner's manual explains how to release it.
Power reset Owner check
A voltage dip or power outage can leave the electronics unresponsive. Switching the breaker off and on restarts both the user interface and the power board. If the controls freeze repeatedly, note when it happens, for example during heavy use or after a storm.
Overheating Technician
Many electronic and induction cooktops shut the control panel off when the electronics get too hot. Induction service documentation lists a shutdown for excessive temperature and a fan speed fault. A blocked cooling path, a failed fan, or a cooktop installed over an oven without the required clearance can cause it. A technician checks the fan, the airflow path and the installation.
Touch panel and communication Technician
On models with separate boards, the documentation uses F6E0 when the user interface loses contact with the control and recommends checking the communication connector. A damaged touch panel, a loose connector or a failed board can all interrupt it. A technician checks the connector, the harness and each board.
Knob-control cooktops Technician
Cooktops with knobs have no touch panel, but an electronic hot-surface indicator or a relay board may still be involved. If a knob turns but nothing happens, the switch, the relay or the wiring behind it needs a technician's check.
Error codes linked to this problem
If your JennAir cooktop shows one of these codes, start with its page:
Repair cost
| Repair | Typical range | Labor |
|---|---|---|
| Cooktop touch control replacement | $250–$620 | Moderate |
| Cooktop control or induction board replacement | $300–$770 | Moderate |
Typical total ranges for the Las Vegas area, parts and labor included. The final cost depends on diagnosis, the exact model, parts availability and whether other damage is found.
When to call for diagnosis
Call for service if the controls stay unresponsive after the panel is dry and the breaker has been reset, or if a code returns.
