KitchenAid wall oven not heating

A wall oven that does not heat may be held by a setting (delay start, Sabbath, control lock or a demo mode), may have lost part of its 240-volt supply, or has a fault in the heat circuit: the bake or broil element, the oven sensor, a relay on the control, or a thermal fuse that opened after overheating. Many of these set a code, so note what the display shows.

Quick checks first

  • Cancel any program and check that no delay start, timed cook, Sabbath, control lock or demo mode is active.
  • Reset the oven's circuit breaker: switch it fully off, wait a minute and switch it back on.
  • On a double oven or a microwave combination unit, check whether the other cavity heats; that helps narrow the cause.
  • Notice whether broil heats when bake does not.
  • Write down any code on the display before resetting.

Settings and modes Owner check

Electronic wall ovens have several modes that look like a fault: a delay start waiting to begin, Sabbath mode, control lock, and a showroom or demo mode that lights the display without heating. A power blip can leave the control waiting for the clock to be set. Cancel everything, start a plain Bake and watch whether the preheat indicator advances.

Power supply Owner check

Wall ovens run on a 240-volt circuit through a double breaker or two fuses. If one side is lost, the display and light may work while the elements stay cold or heat weakly. Cycle the breaker fully off and on. Double ovens and combination units draw a lot of current, and a breaker that trips repeatedly needs an electrician or technician to find out why.

Bake and broil elements Technician

The bake element is at the bottom of the cavity, often hidden under the floor, and the broil element is at the top. Exposed elements can show a break or blister, but hidden elements must be tested. If broil works and bake does not, the bake circuit is first in line. A technician confirms the element and its connections, which may require pulling the oven out of the cabinet.

Oven sensor Technician

The control reads cavity temperature from a sensor probe. Service documentation for these ovens defines F3E0 as the main or upper oven sensor open or shorted, and F3E1 as the lower oven sensor on double ovens. When the reading is not believable the control stops heating that cavity. A technician checks the sensor, the connector and the harness.

Control relays and thermal fuse Technician

The control switches each element through a relay. A relay that does not close kills one function; one that is welded closed can overheat the oven and set an over-temperature code, which the documentation lists as F6E1. A thermal fuse or cutout protects against overheating and may open after a self-clean or when the cooling fan fails. A technician tests these circuits with power applied and finds the cause before replacing a fuse.

Error codes linked to this problem

If your KitchenAid wall oven shows one of these codes, start with its page:

Repair cost

RepairTypical rangeLabor
Wall oven touchpad / display replacement$300–$680Moderate
Wall oven bake or broil element replacement$220–$510Moderate
Wall oven temperature sensor replacement$180–$350Light
Wall oven control board replacement$350–$830Moderate

Typical total ranges for the Las Vegas area, parts and labor included. The final cost depends on diagnosis, the exact model, parts availability and whether other damage is found.

When to call for diagnosis

Call for service if the oven still does not heat after the settings are cleared and the breaker reset, or if a code returns. Stop using it if it heats when switched off.
