Maytag laundry center leaking water

A laundry center leak is traced like a washer leak: fill hose connections, the drain hose at the standpipe, suds, and overfilling. The documentation's overfill checks cover the pressure hose, the water level sensor and the inlet valve. Leaks from inside the cabinet need the unit pulled out and opened.

Quick checks first

  • Turn off the faucets if water is pooling, then dry the floor to see where new water appears.
  • Check both fill hose connections and their rubber washers for drips.
  • Check the drain hose in the standpipe and watch for overflow during drain.
  • Use only HE detergent in the recommended amount.
  • Do not overload the washer section.

Hoses and standpipe Owner check

The fill hoses and the drain hose are behind the unit, often in a tight closet, so slow drips go unnoticed. A connection that drips only during fill leaves water at the back. A drain hose that slips out of the standpipe or a standpipe that cannot take the pump's flow overflows during drain. The documentation's installation checks include the standpipe height and that the hose is not sealed in.

Where the water appears Owner check

Note where and when the water shows up. Water at the back during fill points to the hoses; water during drain points to the drain hose or the standpipe; water that seeps from under the front during the wash points to suds, overfilling or an internal leak. Placing dry towels around the base and running a short cycle while you watch narrows it down quickly.

Suds Owner check

Excess suds can overflow the tub and push foam out of the washer. Regular detergent in an HE washer, or too much HE detergent, is the cause. If the leak is foamy, cut the dose and run a rinse with nothing added.

Overfilling Technician

The documentation's overfill table lists the pressure hose (pinched, misrouted or leaking), the water level sensor, the inlet valves and an incorrectly installed drain hose, then the control. A valve that does not close fully keeps adding water even with the unit off. Turn the faucets off between loads until it is fixed.

Internal hoses, pump and tub Technician

Leaks from under the center of the unit point to internal hose clamps, the drain pump, or the tub and its seal. Getting to these in a laundry center means pulling the unit out and opening the lower cabinet, so it is service work.
