Maytag wall oven door locked
A wall oven door that stays locked may simply be finishing a self-clean: the latch stays engaged until the cavity has cooled, which can take an hour or more. If it stays locked on a cool oven, a breaker reset can let the control release it; if not, the latch motor, its switches or the control need diagnosis, and an F5 code may be stored.
Quick checks first
- After a self-clean, wait until the oven is completely cool; the lock releases on its own.
- Press Cancel or Off and wait a few minutes for the latch to move.
- Reset power at the breaker: off for a minute, then back on, and wait for the latch to cycle.
- Never force the door; the latch can break and the cavity may still be extremely hot.
- Note any code on the display.
Lock during and after cleaning Owner check
During self-clean the cavity reaches temperatures far above cooking, so the latch locks before heating and stays locked until the temperature drops to a safe level. That is intentional. Steam-clean cycles may lock the door for a shorter time. On double ovens each cavity has its own latch.
Power reset Owner check
After a power interruption during a clean cycle, the control may not know where the latch is. Switching the breaker off and on makes it re-check the latch switches and, once the oven is cool, drive the latch open.
Latch motor and switches Technician
The latch assembly has a motor and switches that report the latch and door positions. Service documentation for these ovens lists F5E0 when the door and latch switches disagree and F5E1 when the latch is not operating; the lower cavity of a double oven has its own codes. A broken link, a stalled motor or a switch that does not change state is checked by a technician through the service diagnostics.
Control and wiring Technician
If the latch assembly is healthy but never receives a command, the control output or wiring is next. Wiring near the latch sees heat from every clean cycle and can deteriorate. A technician confirms the command reaches the motor before replacing a board.
Overheated oven with the door locked Technician
If the controls went dead while the oven was very hot and locked, a thermal cutout may have opened, for example because the cooling fan stopped. Leave the door closed, switch off the breaker and call for service; opening a cavity at cleaning temperature risks burns and a flare-up of burning residue.

When to call for diagnosis
Call for service if the door stays locked on a cool oven after a breaker reset, or if an F5 code returns.
