Repair or replace a cooktop?
A cooktop typically lasts about 13–17 years. Whether a repair is worth it depends on what failed, what it costs compared with a new unit, and the condition of the rest of the appliance.
Gas cooktops are long-lived and most repairs are moderate. On electric and induction cooktops, a cracked glass top or failed induction power board is the main decision point.
What to weigh
- Gas vs radiant vs induction
- Glass top or power board cost relative to a new cooktop
- Countertop cutout fit for current models
- Age
