What the washer is detecting

The control opens the inlet valves and watches the level reading from the pressure hose. If the level does not change for too long, or water is in the tub but the reading does not move, LF flashes.

Causes listed for this condition

In the order the service documentation checks them. Documented causes come from the manufacturer's service documentation for these platforms; possible causes are based on how the system works; unconfirmed marks common assumptions that the documentation does not support.

  1. Documented Water supply not connected or faucets turned off.
  2. Documented Plugged inlet hose screens.
  3. Documented A drain hose that siphons water out because of how it is installed.
  4. Documented A pinched, kinked, plugged or leaking pressure hose to the control.
  5. Documented An inlet valve problem, checked with the valve test.

Safe checks you can make

  • Make sure both water faucets behind the washer are fully open and the fill hoses are not kinked behind the cabinet.
  • Turn off the faucets, remove the fill hoses at the washer and check the inlet screens for grit.
  • Check that the drain hose hangs loosely in the standpipe or laundry tub with an air gap around it, is not taped or sealed in, and is not pushed deep into the pipe; a sealed or deep hose can siphon water out while the washer fills.

Further diagnosis requires opening the appliance. Beyond the owner checks, diagnosis involves removing panels, testing components and checking wiring. We describe what a technician investigates, not how to do it yourself.

What a technician checks

  • Runs the inlet valve test.
  • Checks the pressure hose and level sensing on the control.

Typical repairs and cost

Washer water-level pressure sensor repair$180–$350Light
Washer main control board replacement$300–$720Moderate

Typical total ranges for the Las Vegas area, parts and labor included. The final cost depends on diagnosis, the exact model, parts availability and whether other damage is found.

Can you keep using it?

Use with caution. Correct supply and drain-hose issues first; if it still will not fill, have it checked.

Repair or replace?

A fault code alone rarely justifies replacing a washer. Most LF repairs involve a single component once diagnosed. Replacement becomes worth considering when the unit is near the end of its typical 10–13-year life and the diagnosed repair is a major one. See the repair-or-replace guide.
